Weddings
Make your wedding day extra special and celebrate in a truly historic and unique setting.
Located in the cathedral city of Exeter in the heart of scenic Devon, St Nicholas Priory is an historical wedding venue. Founded in 1087, we are the oldest building in the city and offer a one of a kind backdrop for your wedding celebration.
St Nicholas Priory was originally used as a monastery by monks of the Benedictine order who stayed here for over five centuries. Sold by The Crown following the dissolution of the order by King Henry VIII, the property was then purchased by Robert Mallet who leased it out as a prestigious townhouse. The estate passed into the ownership of a religious institution again in 1775 when it was taken over by the Roman Catholic Mission. Restored to reflect much of its original splendour, the Priory is now a Grade 1 listed building and recognised heritage site.
Our Facilities
St Nicholas Priory offers couples a choice of spaces spread across two floors. The Great Hall boasts a truly remarkable location, with exposed original stone walls, and high vaulted ceilings embellished with wooden beams. Coved ceiling and intricate designs dance across the wall, and stained glass windows and a large fireplace complete this look.
We can host both ceremonies and receptions for up to 40 guests. Our dedicated team of staff includes a professional event co-ordinator who will assist you throughout the planning process.
Confetti is permitted at this property.
Catering
We work with a choice of partners who can provide catering for your wedding. Whether you are only holding your ceremony here and want to offer your guests a glass of bubbly and canapes before you depart, or you’re staying for the day and having your reception with us, our event co-ordinator will work with you to ensure your day is special.
