Ian Mortimer @nixpriory

Dr Ian Mortimer is the author of The Time Traveller’s Guides, as well as four critically acclaimed medieval biographies, a study of change over the last ten centuries, and numerous scholarly articles on subjects ranging in date from the twelfth to the twentieth centuries. Prior to 2003, he worked for Devon Record Office, the Royal Commission on Historical Manuscripts, and the universities of Reading and Exeter. Since then he was been a full-time writer but has taken time to serve as a Member of Dartmoor National Park Authority (2003-17), the Lord Chancellor’s Forum on Historical Manuscripts and Academic Research (2011-7), and Exeter Cathedral Fabric Committee (2011-16). He is a Fellow of the Royal Historical Society and the Society of Antiquaries, and served as the Chairman of the Friends of Devon’s Archives in 2015-18. He also writes historical fiction. His most recent novel, The Outcasts of Time, which is set in Exeter between the 14th and 20th centuries, won the 2018 Winston Graham prize for historical fiction.
