Join us for a series of Heritage Open Day tours exploring how St Nicholas Priory was restored between 1912-1916. Due to the finding of new plans by consultant Harold Brakespear we now know the specifics of the extensive restoration that turned what had become five tenements with many families and uses back into the grand guest wing of a medieval priory it once was and this is now told to the public for the first time. Come along and see how much was done (and hidden) during the difficult years of the first world war and find out who had once lived in these lost rooms, before the Priory was turned into the wonderful showpiece it is today.
These tours are at 11am and should last an hour or so.
Directions
St Nicholas Priory is on Mint Lane with walking access from Fore Street or Bartholomew Street West.
The nearest car park is Mary Arches Street, which is a five-minute walk. Exeter Central railway station is a ten-minute walk. The bus station is a 15-minute walk with many buses stopping on the High Street which is ten minutes away.
Access
Unfortunately, due to the nature of this historic building, there is no wheelchair access for our upstairs rooms.
