The mediaeval Priory of St Nicholas at Exeter was served by a church of which little now survives; but which is known from the few remaining architectural fragments to have been a handsome and richly-furnished building. This talk attempts to collate the little that is known from excavation, from documentary sources and from the surviving evidence in the standing fabric, to imagine the possible appearance and plan of this great, lost, church. The talk will be illustrated by reconstruction drawings produced by the author, over many decades, during his work for Exeter Archaeology and for the Exeter Historic Buildings Trust.
