Be An Archaeologist For The Afternoon!
Ever thought about being an archaeologist when you grow up?
Come join us for a two hour workshop to learn all about archaeology at St Nicholas Priory. Become detectives as you discover the past through clues left in the ground and find out what happens after archaeologists have excavated.
The afternoon session includes:
  • Discover how we conserve pottery after hundreds of years being buried
  • Work out what people used to eat by clues left in the ground
  • Reconstruct a pottery jigsaw from fragments that have been discovered
The session is suitable for children aged 7-12, but please let us know if you would like to bring younger or older children before booking. All children must be accompanied by an adult throughout the session.
Ticket price includes squash and biscuits. Doors open at 1:15 for a 1:30 start
Book both the morning and afternoon sessions on the same day for £18

To book both sessions and recieve the discount, click ‘book tieckets’ and select the number of tickets for the first session. Then click ‘next’ and ‘continue shopping’ on the next page, and scroll down to the event for the second session and select your tickets. Please ensure you are booking a morning and afternoon session for the same day! Discount will be applied at checkout.

Directions
St Nicholas Priory is on Mint Lane with walking access from Fore Street or Bartholomew Street West.

The nearest car park is Mary Arches Street, which is a five-minute walk. Exeter Central railway station is a ten-minute walk. The bus station is a 15-minute walk with many buses stopping on the High Street which is ten minutes away.

Access
Unfortunately, due to the nature of this historic building, there is no wheelchair access for our upstairs rooms.

Facilities
Our outdoor toilet block can be made available on request.

St Nicholas Priory: Founded by William the Conqueror in 1087, St Nicholas Priory was home to Benedictine monks for over 400 years and is the oldest building in Exeter. In 1536, like other monasteries, it was closed and the remains became the home of wealthy Tudor merchants.

Access: Unfortunately, only the ground floor of our building is wheelchair-accessible.

Facilities: Accessible loos and nappy-changing facilities.
