DESCRIPTION:In the early 1900s\, St Nicholas Priory\, once one of Exeter's 
 grandest buildings was in a very poor state. Described as 'A mere rookery 
 of tenements' it was threatened with demolition. Fortunately the local peo
 ple came together\, writing in the papers until the city council decided t
 o save the building. Then the painstaking work of restoration began\, all 
 through the troubles of the First World War which nearly stopped the whole
  project. This is the story of how St Nicholas Priory was saved\, those wh
 o went above the call of duty to see the work completed\, and the attempt 
 to solve the puzzle that is all which was done at the time but only sparse
 ly recorded.\nTicket price includes complimentary drinks and refreshments.
 \n\nDoors open at 6pm for 6:30 start.\n\nDirections\nSt Nicholas Priory is
  on Mint Lane with walking access from Fore Street or Bartholomew Street W
 est.\n\nThe nearest car park is Mary Arches Street\, which is a five-minut
 e walk. Exeter Central railway station is a ten-minute walk. The bus st
 ation is a 15-minute walk with many buses stopping on the High Street whic
 h is ten minutes away.\n\nAccess\nUnfortunately\, due to the nature of thi
 s historic building\, there is no wheelchair access for our upstairs rooms
