DESCRIPTION:Archaeological investigation\, often having taken place in adva
 nce of post-WWII building projects\, has revealed a wealth of information 
 about the mid-1st century AD Roman fortress at Exeter and the Roman walled
  city which replaced it. The talk will focus on the NW Quarter of the city
  and will demonstrate that beneath our feet lay the traces of the wooden b
 uildings of the fortress and the remains of Roman stone buildings of the c
 ity. For example\, recovered evidence shows that St Nicholas Priory was bu
 ilt on the site where a Roman barrack block once stood.\n\nTicket price in
 cludes complimentary drinks and refreshments.\n\nDoors open at 6pm for 6:3

  is on Mint Lane with walking access from Fore Street or Bartholomew Stree
 t West.\n\nThe nearest car park is Mary Arches Street\, which is a five-mi
 nute walk. Exeter Central railway station is a ten-minute walk. The bus
  station is a 15-minute walk with many buses stopping on the High Street w
 hich is ten minutes away.\n\nAccess\nUnfortunately\, due to the nature of 
 this historic building\, there is no wheelchair access for our upstairs ro
