 r fabulous Ben Clapp will share his latest research with us!\n\nThe story 
 of the saving and restoration of St Nicholas Priory is a remarkable tale t
 hat took place during the struggles of the first world war.  This talk an
 d following tour will discuss the foresight of the city council and its of
 ficers in striving to save what was then a 'mere rookery of tenements'\, t
 he role that the architects played in the groundbreaking restoration which
  left the building as one of the jewels of Exeter's heritage and the gifti
 ng of much of the contents by various dignitaries upon opening.\n\nThe tic
 ket includes refreshments\, just like at the 1916 grand opening :)\n\nSt N
 icholas Priory: Founded by William the Conqueror in 1087\, St Nicholas Pri
 ory was home to Benedictine monks for over 400 years and is the oldest bui
 lding in Exeter. In 1536\, like other monasteries\, it was closed and the 
 remains became the home of wealthy Tudor merchants.\n\nDirections: St Nich
 olas Priory is in Mint Lane with walking access from Fore Street or Bartho
 lomew Street West.\nThe nearest car park is Mary Arches Street (5 mins). P
 arking at Smythen Street and Harlequin Shopping Centre is also available. 
 Exeter Central railway station (10 mins). The bus station is a 15-minute w
 alk away with many buses stopping on the High Street (1o mins).\n\nAccess:
  Unfortunately\, only the ground floor of our building is wheelchair-acces
 sible.\n\nFacilities: Accessible loos and nappy-changing facilities.\n\nIf
