and enjoy a glass of wine with live music from Melodic Mamas and stay afte
r the reading to share your thoughts.\n\n'Measure for Measure' is believed
to have been written and performed in around 1604. Set in Vienna\, Duke V
incentio entrusts the city’s rule to his deputy\, the puritanical Angelo
\, while disguising himself as a humble friar to observe in secret. Angelo
tightens the city’s laws and sentences young Claudio to death for the c
 rime of fornication.  When Claudio’s sister Isabella\, a novice nun\, c
omes to him to plead for her brother’s life\, Angelo agrees to free him.
On one condition… This play raises thorny questions: What does justice
really mean? Does one voice hold more weight than another? Is human fallib
ility comic or tragic? Let's come together to explore what this ancient pl
ay reveals - which aspects of it feel rooted in its past and which still r
esonate to this day?\n\nWe are pleased to host actors Micha Colombo and Ch
arlie Coldfield for their new project "Shakespeare @ The Priory" to create
a focal point for Shakespeare in Exeter\, giving audiences an entertainin
g experience of quality Shakespeare close to home and giving performers a
platform to build community and develop their classical and sight-reading
skills. Whether you're a Shakespeare aficionado or simply curious\, join u
s as we launch this new project\, and discover what Shakespeare means for
us in our city today. We start with a series of rehearsed readings of less
er known classical plays\, leading to fully staged productions and broader
events in future.\n\nSt Nicholas Priory: Founded by William the Conqueror
in 1087\, St Nicholas Priory was home to Benedictine monks for over 400 y
ears and is the oldest building in Exeter. In 1536\, like other monasterie
s\, it was closed and the remains became the home of wealthy Tudor merchan
ts.\n\nDirections: St Nicholas Priory is in Mint Lane with walking access
from Fore Street or Bartholomew Street West.\nThe nearest car park is Mary
Arches Street (5 mins). Parking at Smythen Street and Harlequin Shopping
Centre is also available. Exeter Central railway station (10 mins). The bu
s station is a 15-minute walk away with many buses stopping on the High St
reet (1o mins).\n\nAccess: Unfortunately\, only the ground floor of our bu
ilding is wheelchair-accessible.\n\nFacilities: Accessible loos and nappy-
changing facilities.\n\nIf you have any questions or concerns about your v
 isit\, please email admin@nicholaspriory.com
